Identification

Flattened body with large scales that also appear on the head. Long dorsal fin with twelve spines. Top half is a reddish orange colour and the sides are a pinky silver. The adults have a blackish spot just behind the gills. Large eyes and small sharp teeth.

Habitat

Red sea bream are found at the bottom in rough, rocky, seaweedy ground. They are shoal fish and are the most abundent of all the breams.
